I’m Catholic, so I grew up seeing different versions of Mary and Jesus. When I asked my dad about it, he said that God comes to us as the way we see ourselves. When I saw Santas of different colors, I just assumed that the same thing was happening because Saint Nicholas is a saint, so he had God’s special powers. My brother and me with the Macy’s Herald Square’s Black Santa Ugly Christmas Shirt back in the 70’s. My mom didn’t have to ask for the “special” Santa, nor was he hidden. This is what being PC gets you.

I feel like making it this complicated ruins the magic for any kids. The white one sure as shit isn’t hidden. My son thinks the photo santas are Santa’s family members helping out. We have family members with dark skin and with light skin. I’d absolutely be thrilled to see a Santa with a different skin tone as the ‘main’ Black Santa Ugly Christmas Shirt. And I wish that my neice here in Washington had that representation even though they don’t celebrate Christmas.

I wish more white parents could be chill with that. These white parents that made these Santas hide are probably the same ones who have photos of white Jesus in their homes. I’m happy Macys does this but ffs they can’t put the info on their website or a flyer so the kids don’t have to hear you ask. My Jewish husband growing up int Baltimore had never seen Santa until their next door neighbor dressed as him every year. Scott really thought Black Santa Ugly Christmas Shirt was black until he was much older, because that’s the only one he knew.
