As a little girl, Jess Clements always looked forward to her grandmother’s visits. “My Nana coming was the most exciting thing because she’d take me shopping and then I would come home and do a little runway show,” she recalls. “Fashion was just always something I connected with family and associated with feeling good.” Given her early start, it’s no surprise that today over 680K fans flock to Clements’ Instagram (@jessicaclements) to take notes on her effortlessly chic style. “I’m all about mixing masculinity and femininity,” reveals the model. Vogue and Bloomingdale’s invited Clements to style herself in the iconic store’s new fall pieces.
Here’s what she chose. “An easy pair of trousers is my go-to,” says Clements, who fell hard for Joie’s Abony Pant. “I call them my ‘cheat pants,’ because they’re so soft and so comfy.” Just add a sweater—she opted for a powder blue sweater also from Joie—“and you’re cozy and super chic,” she says. The model gravitated to the pant for its houndstooth print (“It brings in a little bit of a menswear situation,” she says) and high-waisted cut (“It creates an hourglass shape,” she notes.) Clements’ Styling Tip: For the sweater, she says, “just do a tiny little tuck just slightly off to the side so it blouses over and shows off your waist.” Her shoe choice would depend on the occasion. “If I was just hanging out with friends, I would totally throw on chunky white sneakers,” she says. “But for a business meeting, I’d put on little heeled booties, or even a stiletto.”
Another Clements wardrobe staple is a modern power suit. “There’s something so strong and sexy about a matching blazer and skirt,” she says. She chose Maje’s Vadim Blazer and Jadie Skirt, not only for their sophisticated design, but the skirt’s secret functionality “It has shorts under it!” she reveals. “That made me confident about the shorter length and showing off my legs.” True to her fashion-forward style, Clements paired the suit not with a t-shirt or button-down, but Sandro’s whimsical Boot Shirt. “It’s a little Western with the chains and cowboy boot print. I thought that it was really funky,” she says. “I love fun prints. They’re such easy way to add personality to your look.” She cleverly styled the ensemble, too, rolling up the shirt’s sleeves over the blazer’s sleeves to reveal an extra pop of color. “I would totally wear this to a meeting because in my line of work it’s about showing off your uniqueness,” she says. “The biggest joy of my day is if I can make somebody smile, and the funky shirt shows a little piece of who I am.” She appreciates the versatility of these pieces, too. For an evening fashion event, she’d even wear the suit with just a bra underneath. “You’d have a really, really sexy chic look,” she says.
Perhaps Clements favorite outfit of the day was LINI’s Breanna Pant, worn with the perfect fall sweater by Zadig and Voltaire. “It’s such a good date night outfit because you have the proportions of the chunky sweater balancing the tight pant. You’re comfy, while still being sexy—and the sweater leaves a little to the imagination,” she says. While she usually opts for minimalist jewelry, here she chose a statement necklace. “I just love the fact that you can put on a chunky necklace and elevate a really simple look,” she adds. The cut of the pants was what made this pair a standout. Says Clements, “What I particularly love is that they have a tight leg with a little bit of a flare at the ankle. It’s such a feminine look.”
Whatever she wears, this fall, it won’t only look great, but feel great. “Every year I look forward to fall—there are so many great things to do, going apple picking or having a campfire with friends,” she says. “It’s really important for me to have that coziness—fall is a chance to put a new spin on how I style everything.”
