But computers talk to each other so fast that they can have hundreds of them, all chatting to each other at the same time, and there’s no problem. Computers talk to each other so fast that they can send each other almost any information, so long as we (or rather, really smart programmers somewhere else in the world) tell them how to store it and show it to us. And that’s really all the internet is: it’s just a really, really long conversation between most of the computers in the world. Scattered around the world are servers, that do lots of storing and messing about with the information, all on behalf of our computers. It’s awesome.

Other people worked out we could, just like picking up the phone and buying something by reading out your credit card details to someone, get the computers to do the whole thing for us, much faster.
