I HAVE had a Rotti & yes fiercely loyal to their family, but kids can be annoying little pests to dogs at times & Fudge DID growl to warn them off, we respected him for that & stayed away, I’m the crazy dog mom everyone warned you about  at other times the kids could sit next to him while he ate his food. The children were also told to behave appropriately & not tease or annoy Fudge. Also had a mixed breed & he was treated the same way by us,never turned on us, but again warned the kids if he had had enough smothering.

They are not the family dog that turn on children. Maybe on strangers when they feel their family is being threatened but I refuse to believe that a Rottweiler that has been raised properly would turn on children of the family. I have had Rottweilers all my life growing up. I remember pulling my dog’s ears, laying on them, and invading their space more than I should of. My dogs would sometimes get up and move away from me, but not once did they ever bark, growl, I’m the crazy dog mom everyone warned you about or even show their teeth. Their loyalty goes beyond anything I have ever experienced. In the situation you describe above the dog should have been reprimanded for growling. Rottweilers need to know that they can not growl at their family for any reason no matter what. The child should have also been reprimanded for being mean to the dog, just as I was growing up. Please produce the statistics that will prove that Rottweilers turn on their family. I have never seen such statistics from a credible source.

I agree with Bree my two grandsons came home to rottweiler never have the showed anything but love. Myself I just loss one of 12 years and replaced with two (twins) most loving pets.Next week both start being trained as service dog s for self.Whats does that tell you as i child i made the mistake of trying to get between a rottweiler and another dog who was completely blind, only to have the rottweiler turn on me when the other dog fled. I love dogs, and animals in general, but i havent been able to be in a room with a rottweiler ever since. But videos like this give me hope that i can learn to love them again.
