I Like big trees and I cannot lie shirt! At the age of nine, Kwasi Anwona had insulted me twice. He showed no respect for me, an eighteen year old. First was because we had gone hunting with his catapult and very far from the village when we saw a snake. I was afraid of the snake and wanted to return to the village. Kwasi became angry. Angry that he had to take me back and return to his favourite tree to hunt. He didn’t understand why a grown up like me should be afraid of a snake. Especially as the snake had ran away from us.

He knew my weaknesses so he went round and covered all the holes but two. He covered one with a sack the I was to hold firm to the hole whilst he smoked the other hole. About five minutes into the smoking the kusie came out with speed. I panicked and let go off the sack. Kwasi thought we had lost the animal and started raining insults at the older me.

I couldn’t say a word. He didn’t spare me. What was l to do? I was afraid and let it go. He called me a lion when it came to meat but l cannot even hold a sack. We got what we wanted but we made a silent pact that much as he liked me, we weren’t good hunting partners. I Like big trees and I cannot lie shirt! At age eleven, he had his trouble with the oldboy. They had gone hunting with the oldboy’s hunting gun and a box of bullets. Kwasi was to hold the gun and bullets but the oldboy would shoot if they saw any animal. They saw one not long into the trip. The oldboy told Kwasi to hold on to the gun whilst he finds his specs. By the time he go the specs out of his pocket and took it off the case, Kwasi Anwona had shot and killed the animal. That was his first time with a gun and he didn’t miss. Kwasi didn’t understand why you have to put on a specs before shooting. To him the animal doesn’t have the luxury of waiting for you to put your specs on, aim and shoot.
