Hot girl summer, the near-perfect phrase coined by Houston-based rapper Megan Thee Stallion a few months back, has undeniably become a full-on phenomenon. Megan explained her interpretation of the concept to The Root back in June: “It’s about women and men just being unapologetically them, just having a good ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn what nobody got to say about it,” adding that you have to be the life of the party, of course, to really do the phrase justice.
Now, though, Megan has blessed us with the official music video for the Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign-featuring song, which paints a portrait of what a real hot girl summer looks like: neon green cowboy hats, mesh tops over bikini bottoms fit for a raucous pool party, and lots of leopard print. Most importantly, though, it proves the true hot girl summer isn’t a solitary affair—Rico Nasty, French Montana, and more make cameos in the clip, and Megan and Minaj match in barely there highlighter yellow zebra print sets. Maybe hot girl summer is really about the friends that you make along the way.
