The B.E.T. Awards may have been virtual, but its style statements were very real. The celebrities who participated in the annual ceremony brought their A-game to the proceedings, shaking off months of sweats and reminding the world how exciting red carpet style can be. No one did that better than Lizzo, the night’s winner for Best Female R&B and Pop artist. The star, who accepted her award from home via live stream, was glamorous in a ruffled gown from New York label, Mônot. With its contrasting black velvet and iridescent texture and daring side split, the dress was in line with Lizzo’s fearless style philosophy. Accessorized with a crystalized flask clutch, smoky eyes courtesy of makeup artist, Ernesto Casillas and mile-long ponytail coiffed by hair stylist Shelby Swain, the final look was pure glamour.
Lizzo and her stylist Marko Monroe have kept busy during the quarantine. The star’s IGTV updates and stories are endlessly watchable, and she’s also kept it cute while working from home and serving up impromptu flute-meditation sessions. Among the first stars to provide a glimpse of Hollywood glamour post-isolation, she lifted spirits last night with her striking outfit and uplifting acceptance speech. Nominated alongside Beyoncé, Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, Kehlani, and H.E.R., she honored the women currently dominating the music scene while underscoring the night’s real purpose. “I will always feel like a winner because as long as you’re winning in life that is the only trophy you need,” she said. “We’re all winners ladies, so let’s keep bigging up the culture because that’s what this has been about and will always be about.”
