When you think of Gucci’s red carpet presence over the past few years, chances are images of Jared Leto holding a wax version of his own head at the Met Gala spring to mind, or even baroque flashes of Florence Welch a star-studded, violet velvet cape. Under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s developed long standing relationships with a very particular set of celebrities and artists, which include Leto, Welch, as well as the likes of Lana Del Rey and Harry Styles.
At the 2019 British Fashion Awards red carpet earlier today though, another artist proved herself poised to join this exclusive coterie. U.K. rapper and actor Little Simz took the carpet in a head-to-toe Gucci look that combined an orange wide-brimmed hat bright enough to ward off any wintry blues, a classic navy blue suit, a colorful shirt printed with the iconic monogram, all of which she finished off with classic heeled loafers. It’s not Simz’s first Gucci outing either—she wore a skirt suit from the Italian house to the Mercury Prize Awards in September and then memorably broke all traditional suiting rules at the Q Awards red carpet the following month. With this latest assured outing, though, Simz is shaping up to be Gucci’s most promising new style star.
