When the theme of camp was first announced for this year’s Met Gala, there were few looks as fervently anticipated as Katy Perry’s. As a long-time Jeremy Scott muse, the singer’s taste for frothy, colorful fashions is widely known. True to form, she arrived to fashion’s biggest night in a fully-functioning chandelier designed by Scott for Moschino, covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals that glittered spectacularly as she made her way down the pink carpet.
Now, it seems she’s continuing her streak of very camp dressing: earlier today, Perry posted the latest installment of “potty jams”—a new series of acoustic performances staged in public bathrooms, because where else?— with a rendition of her latest single, “Small Talk.” Following up on a similar performance of lead single “Never Really Over” last month, the singer presented a stripped-back version of her latest pop confection, which many have already interpreted as a loved-up ode to her fiancé, Orlando Bloom.
In suitably playful style, Perry opted for a pink sequined slip dress from Adam Selman’s ongoing collaboration with Opening Ceremony, covered in flamingos and with a marabou trim. To match the frock, she went for pink fluffy drop earrings and a bold powder-pink eye, with a few pink crystals dotted around for good measure. Whether it’s a nod to John Waters’s 1972 queer classic Pink Flamingos, we can’t confirm, but it would certainly be in keeping with Perry’s flirtatious, frou-frou style instincts—as well as her love of all things camp.
