The end is near! Paris Fashion Week is jam-packed with eight straight days of runway shows, presentations, and showroom appointments, but Dutch model Birgit Kos is used to the madness. She took Vogue behind the scenes and let us tag along for her full day, starting in her hotel room and ending at Isabel Marant’s Spring 2020 show.
And in between: crepes! Kos shows us how to eat her favorite French snack “the Dutch way” (just roll it up!) and reveals her best tip for succeeding in modeling: “You have to be you—people are going to love you for you.” She also warned that it’s a bit more grueling than the glossy photos might suggest: “It’s not just a job, it’s a total lifestyle,” she says. “I think people assume that everything is given to us, which is a misconception. Mentally and physically, it’s way harder than people think, [especially] with family and friends, because you’re always away.”
When it’s actually show season, one of the biggest stressors is zig-zagging from show to show and getting stuck in traffic. Luckily, Kos has avoided that this season with a clever hack: Instead of a car, she hops on the back of a motorcycle. Genius! When she finally arrives to the Domaine National du Palais-Royal for Marant’s show, Kos gives us a lesson in street-style and heads backstage for hair and makeup. She also steals a few minutes with Marant to hear the run-down of the show’s inspiration: “I started by listening to baile funk, Brazilian electronic music,” the designer says. “And I love when the girls have a slight in their eyes—they look much more beautiful.”
Next, her muses Kos, Kaia Gerber, Adut Akech, Gigi Hadid, and Amber Valletta strapped on their heels, got dressed, and hit the figure-eight catwalk just in time for the show to start. Watch Kos’s full day-in-the-life video below.
