This week was all about Jennifer Lopez: in case you didn’t see the floods of Instagram footage over the past few days, the Hustlers star stormed Versace’s Spring 2020 runway collectionin Milan on Friday night wearing a new interpretation of that viral plunging-neckline gown she first wore back in 2000. (You remember the one: the jungle-themed, barely-there style that basically invented Google Images.) Flash-forward to tonight’s 2019 Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is paying homage to J.Lo with a deep-V gown of her own.
Clarke, whose series Game of Thrones is the most-nominated show tonight, wore a navy floor-length gown by Valentino Haute Couture, which had a plunging neckline that mimicked that now-famed Versace dress J.Lo wore almost 20 years ago. (Perhaps Clarke was so inspired by the J.Lo sighting at fashion week this week that she demanded Valentino lower the neckline? Unlikely, but one can dream.) She then accessorized her daring look with David Webb jewels and Jimmy Choo platform heels. But back to the dress: showing that much skin is a risk that few can pull off, yet Clarke managed to do it with grace.
