Luxury fashion houses are increasingly ceasing to use animal furs in their collections, with the latest labels getting on board including Gucci, Burberry, Versace, and many more. As a result, the faux fur market is more innovative and plentiful than ever; real progress has been made on developing imitation textiles that are more sustainably produced, such as Stella McCartney’s new plant-based fur, which is significantly less environmentally harmful than a typical faux (they’re often made from plastics that do not degrade). Tech strides aside, faux just looks better than ever before: more and more, designers are finding striking new ways to make fake fur coats a real wardrobe standout.
The latest subscriber to the faux fur movement for fall? Charlize Theron. The actress, whose latest film Bombshell arrives in December, was spotted in New York City yesterday wearing head-to-toe Dior, with the standout piece being the label’s green and black striped faux fur coat from its Fall 2019 collection. She let the statement outerwear, made from wool and mohair, shine by styling it with a simple black top, white trousers, and pointy patent boots. Around her neck, a gold Foundrae medallion necklace added a luxurious finish to the ensemble. Consider the statement coat look proof that a good faux is the fall season’s secret weapon—with the right one, your outfit doesn’t need much else.
