When Baylor women’s basketball beat UConn 68-57 on Thursday night in Waco, Texas, the Bears dealt the Huskies not only their first loss of the season but also their first regular season defeat in more than four years. Here are the numbers to know about UConn’s surprising loss and now-broken streak.

Before Thursday night, UConn’s most recent regular-season loss had come on Nov. 17, 2014, when the Huskies fell to Stanford in overtime. The Huskies won the rest of their games that season, then posted undefeated regular seasons in 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.

That calculates to 215 weeks and three days or 36,192 hours.

UConn famously lost to Mississippi State on a last-second shot in the 2017 Final Four, then fell to Notre Dame on yet another buzzer-beater during the 2018 Final Four. Both of those losses came in overtime.

UConn didn’t simply beat up on lesser opponents at home over its regular-season winning streak. Since that game at Stanford in 2014, the Huskies had won all 56 of their road contests.

The Huskies defeated a heavy load of AP Top 25 teams in the regular season over the course of this run. Of those 34, 11 ranked in the top five, while two (Notre Dame this year and South Carolina in 2015) stood No. 1 nationally before facing the Huskies.

The last time UConn lost (in the regular season or postseason) to a team outside the top 7 in the latest AP poll was Feb. 18, 2012, when unranked St. John’s beat the Huskies in Storrs.

Before Thursday, the last time Geno Auriemma’s team lost a game by double digits was Feb. 27, 2012, when UConn fell to Notre Dame 72-59 in its regular-season finale.

The last time the Huskies failed to at least force overtime was March 12, 2013, when the Fighting Irish beat them 61-59 in the Big East Tournament.

Williams, now averaging 13.3 points per game for the Huskies, had just begun high school when UConn fell to Stanford in 2014. Zero current Huskies were on the team at the time.

Depth has been UConn’s biggest concern this season (as well as during other recent campaigns) and might have been the Huskies’ downfall Thursday. Three bench players combined to play 14 minutes against the Bears, failing to even attempt a shot, let alone score. Baylor’s NaLyssa Smith, meanwhile, came off the bench to score a much-needed 12 points in 15 minutes.

The Huskies have plenty of time to work out any issues that came to the fore against Baylor, begin a new streak and prepare for the AAC Tournament and, most importantly, the NCAA Tournament.
