Antonio Brown Says He’s Walking Away from Football

Antonio Brown suggested that he might be done playing professional football in a series of social media posts on Monday.

Brown, the troubled former Steelers wide receiver that is still facing a potential NFL suspension after multiple rape and sexual assault allegations surfaced in 2019, culminated a tumultuous year that saw Brown traded once, released twice more and involved in several legal entanglements.

“Is it time to walk away I done everything in the game ?!!” Brown wrote on Twitter Friday. “At this point the risk is greater than the reward thank you everyone who been part of this journey I sincerely thank you for everything! Life goes on 84!”

It’s not clear when Brown would even be permitted to return to play if he signed with a team, as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has chosen not to announce Brown’s punishment while he’s still a free agent.

Brown signed a three-year, $50 million contract with the Oakland Raiders after being traded by the Steelers to make him the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver, and another $15 million, one-year contract with the New England Patriots. The guaranteed portions of those contracts are being tied up by his suspension and the NFLPA has filed a grievance on his behalf.
