Do you ever find yourself grappling with the age-old dilemma of figuring out your body shape while trying on clothes Stop Project 2025 Save American Democracy T-Shirt? It’s a common struggle, and believe me, you’re not alone. In fact, even as a personal stylist and color consultant, I’ve had my own share of fashion conundrums. Let me take you on a journey through my own experiences and insights, and show you how understanding your body equation can be a game-changer in your style journey. Here’s the style struggle I answer in this video from a lovely reader: I struggle with what body shape I am. When I try clothes on, my heart tells me one thing but my eyes tell me another. This is probably silly but it worries me and I wish I could feel better. Picture this, before I learned what I know now (aka became an image consultant): I had an affinity for clothing that accentuated an hourglass silhouette. I absolutely loved that look and aspired to emulate it in my outfits. Those fit-and-flare dresses with intricate waist detailing never failed to catch my eye. But here’s the catch—my body wasn’t naturally inclined towards the classic hourglass shape, instead, I’m a straight-up H shape with little waist- definition. Consequently, what I envisioned in my heart wasn’t quite aligned with what I saw in the mirror. The result? A feeling of being ‘off,’ unattractive, and even more than a tad frumpy. This realization led me to a crucial understanding: dressing the body you have today is the key to feeling confident and beautiful. Life is a journey, and so is our relationship with our bodies. It’s not uncommon for our bodies to change over the years, whether it’s due to natural shifts or the impacts of various life stages such as pregnancy and birth to menopause. Reflecting on my own experience, I realized that clinging to an idealized body shape (that I never had) and even the body I had early in my adulthood was limiting and even a tad disheartening. Because I don’t have a defined waist, the oversized top style works for my body (when worn with a slim bottom garment), so there is always an upside for every downside as those body shapes that have the defined waists (X, A and 8) find this trend really doesn’t work for them like it does for the straighter shapes (H, V, O). Celebrate what you have and learn what works for you!
