Today, Kaia Gerber, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and a rising runway star in her own right, celebrates her 18th birthday. The model was hardly in party mode when she was seen stepping out in Soho, New York this morning, though her outfit did hint at a new, grown-up approach to off-duty style. She sported an olive green short sleeve camp shirt over a black, strappy tank top, and supermodel-worthy faded jeans, adding brown snakeskin heels by Jimmy Choo for that elevated touch. Still, there were a couple of quirky Gen Z elements in the mix, too. The shoulder bag with a beaded strap was very Carrie Bradshaw. Her tinted yellow sunglasses were classic noughties as well, in fact they could have come straight out of Ali G’s wardrobe. (Fun fact: Gerber was born in 2001, only a few years after Ali G came onto the scene.)
Despite her tender age, Gerber has already hit every major model milestone. Chanel, Valentino, Miu Miu, Prada, Alexander Wang—you name the runway, she’s walked it. Clearly she’s learned a lot on the job, as far as styling herself goes. We’ve seen her embrace even the most tricky-to-pull-off trends; she’s mastered the art of mix-and-match prints and even dared to wear summer’s cardigan-as-top look. And with New York Fashion Week just days away, her street style is only destined to get better with age.
