Disney Made A Huge Mistake In The New ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer
A new Avengers: Endgame trailer dropped today, though I’m not sure Disney actually needs to show us anything more of the movie for fans to be excited and flood theaters when it lands on April 26th. And I’m not sure you should actually watch it like I did. There’s such thing as revealing too much, after all. We’ll get to that in a bit. Obviously some minor trailer spoilers follow, but I’ll put another spoiler tag in when we get to the juicy bits.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good trailer that makes great use of color with some very cool black and white and red scenes. We see all our surviving heroes, including a fun moment between Thor and Captain Marvel at the end. We see Nebula looking seriously angry, Ant-Man doing his tiny superhero bit, and Hawkeye with a sort-of-mohawk which is cool.
Other possible interesting tidbits include the possible debut of Kate Bishop, the teen Avenger version of Hawkeye, shooting bow and arrow with Hawkeye (even if it’s his daughter this has to be more than just dad and daughter shooting arrows.) We also may very well be seeing moments just before the deaths of some of our favorite characters, like Captain America. It’s possible that Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Thor will all make it out of this alive, but I wouldn’t count on all three surviving
What’s really crazy—and I mean crazy in a bad way—is the scene where all the Avengers are in their Quantum suits. This is a moment that should maybe deter you from even watching the trailer. (My advice: Watch up until 1:50 then quickly hit pause and skip ahead to 2:10 on the original trailer posted below.)
So yeah, spoiler warning here.
SPOILER WARNING!!!
Tony Stark and Nebula are in this group. They’re walking alongside everyone else. At the end of Infinity War, Tony Stark and Nebula are both on Titan. In the first trailer we see Stark floating in space, recording a sad message to Pepper Potts.
A big question after the last movie and first Endgame trailer was: How will Stark get back home? Will he get back home? Now, although we still don’t have the answer to the first question, we know that he does, in fact, return safe and sound. That’s a pretty bizarre thing to put in a movie trailer, quite frankly, and it’s a little disappointing that Disney chose to do this.
Granted, it was always likely that Stark would return. We have to have all the Avengers assemble for this final showdown with Thanos. But I still hate it when a movie gives away even something this predictable. It’s just not how movie trailers ought to be. We’re supposed to go in with lots of questions and uncertainties, not with such major plot points spoiled.
All they had to do was cut this one frame from the trailer. They could still show the other Avengers in their suits. Just cut this one frame and you’ve got one less spoiler. It’s not that hard!
END SPOILERS
Oh well. I’m still really looking forward to this.
The MCU is really quite remarkable. I’m not sure how it will carry on without its three main characters, even with Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and all the rest. I guess we’ll see.
Check out my latest on Captain Marvel, and why the controversy surrounding that film is so incredibly silly.
