1. Dresses and Sneakers
This summer, celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Hailey Bieber, and Emily Ratajkowski all offset their sweet summer dresses with cooler sneakers rather than the expected heel or sandal. (Ratajkowski, in particular, made this combo her seasonal uniform, stepping out in the look in New York City on multiple occasions.) For fall, just shift gears to a long-sleeve knit dress instead, or add a chunky knit over a slip—and voilà!
2. Head-to-Toe Dressing
Monochromatic styling—even with loud prints—was a summer standout. Sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner both got the head-to-toe memo, with Kylie doing all-over florals and Kendall often sticking to looks in a single color palette. Meanwhile, Rihanna’s fiery Fenty jumpsuit—with a matching red bag!—made the case for matchy-matchy accessories, too. (A+ for coordination.) For fall, consider matching your outerwear to your knitwear and shoes and—well, you get it.
3. The Layered Crop Top
It’s easy to understand why the crop top is a summer hit: given the sweltering temperatures, stars such as Miley Cyrus, Gigi Hadid, and Bieber opted to show skin to, well, simply cool off. But the ab-revealing piece was more sizzling than cool, especially when paired with high-waist denim. For fall, consider wearing a cropped tee, or even a cropped sweater, under a boxy blazer or long wool cardigan.

5. All-Over Denim
The ’60s were back in a major way this summer, thanks to movies such as Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. And denim is a classic staple from the decade that will be surely be carrying into fall, too. It girls such as Irina Shayk, Gigi Hadid, and Sophie Turner have done head-to-toe jeans this summer, from overalls to jacket-and-skirt combos. And you can do it the coming months, too—simply layer your favorite coat on top.
